Privacy policy

Oorjo is a data collection app. People sign in as contributors, complete paid tasks — answering forms, recording speech, taking photographs — and are paid for work that passes review. This page explains exactly what we hold about you and what you can ask us to do with it.

What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with Google we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We never see your Google password.

Your contributor profile. The languages you speak, your home language, your district and state, and optionally your age band, gender, education and type of work. We use these to decide which paid tasks you are eligible for.

The work you submit. Your answers to forms, and any audio, photographs or video you record for a task, along with the time you submitted them and which task they belong to.

Payment details. The name you want to be paid as and your UPI ID. When you add a UPI ID we ask our payment provider to confirm it is valid, and store the account-holder name they return so you can check it is yours before your first payout. We store a record of every amount you earn and every payout made to you. We never see or store your bank password, PIN or card details.

Technical records. For security we keep an activity log of significant actions. Where an IP address is involved we store only a one-way hash of it, never the address itself.

Why we collect it

To create and secure your account; to match you with work you qualify for; to review submitted work and pay you for what is approved; to meet our tax and accounting obligations; and to detect fraud and abuse. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Who we share it with

Clients who commission the work. The recordings, images and form answers you submit are delivered to the organisation that commissioned that collection, as the dataset they paid for. Your name, email, UPI ID and payment records are not part of that delivery.

Our payment providers. Cashfree Payments and Razorpay receive the details needed to verify your UPI ID and to send your payout, depending on which rail the programme paying you runs on.

Google. Sign-in is handled by Google. Their handling of your Google account is covered by Google's own privacy policy.

Our infrastructure providers. Hosting, database and file storage providers process data on our behalf, under contract, in the Asia-Pacific region. They may not use it for their own purposes.

We also disclose data where the law requires it, such as a valid order from a court or regulator.

How long we keep it

Work you submit is kept as part of the dataset it belongs to, including after delivery to the client who commissioned it. Payment and earnings records are kept for as long as Indian tax and company law requires, which is currently eight years. Your account and profile are kept while your account is open, and removed or anonymised when you ask us to close it, subject to those record-keeping duties.

Your rights

You can see and correct your profile and payment details at any time from the Profile screen in the app. You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. To delete your account, see how to delete your Oorjo account.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, write to our grievance contact at privacy@kenpathlabs.com. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act you may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Security

Traffic to Oorjo is encrypted in transit. Where we store a direct identifier for a collection programme it is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, and elsewhere we store only a one-way hash of it. Access to contributor data by our staff is restricted by role and logged.

Children

Oorjo is for adults. You must be 18 or older to hold a contributor account. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and will delete any such account we find.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
